✨ Pick the city before the venue
The pattern repeats every year. Teams leave at the end of July, and the question of the September company offsite waits politely for everyone to come back before turning urgent. The instinct is to start hunting for a venue straight away. Start with the city instead, because it settles almost everything that follows: travel time, how much of the budget disappears into transport, how long your format can realistically run, and the energy of the two days themselves.
Paris, Marseille, Cannes and Nice are the four destinations that come up most often in the September briefs we receive. Here is what actually separates them.
🚄 What really makes the difference
The journey of your most distant participant
If your teams are spread across several offices, the number that matters is not the average travel time, it is the travel time of the person furthest away. A one-day offsite meeting loses half its value when a third of the group arrives at 11am and leaves at 4pm. Marseille is a little over three hours from Paris by TGV, station to station, right in the centre. Nice is a 1h30 flight, with an airport seven kilometres from the city centre. Cannes sits about thirty minutes from that same airport.
How much of a change of scene you want
A corporate offsite in the city where your teams already work keeps one foot in the daily routine. Some people will drop by the office between sessions, others will go home to sleep. Sometimes that is exactly right, particularly for a single-day format. When the goal is team cohesion, it pays to leave the usual backdrop behind.
Real availability in September
September still counts as high season on the French Riviera, and the best offsite venues go early. Add the trade show calendar, which locks up entire cities during certain weeks. This is the most underestimated factor of the four.
🗼 Paris when teams are scattered
What the city offers
Paris solves the logistics problem better than any other French city. Six train stations, two airports, and for most companies, a good share of the team already on site. It is also where the choice of private venues is widest: townhouses, artists' studios, rooftops, industrial lofts in the 11th or out in Pantin, showrooms that can be reconfigured for a plenary followed by breakout sessions.
What to plan for
The Paris autumn is busy. The most sought-after venues for a September team offsite are booked from June onward for the first two weeks of the month. Check the real seated capacity too, which is often lower than the standing figure quoted for receptions.

⚓ Marseille for a genuine change of scene
What the city offers
Marseille offers the best ratio between feeling far away and being easy to reach. Three hours by train from Paris, an international airport, and a city that looks nothing like an office. The Calanques are twenty minutes from the centre, which opens up outdoor team building formats that are hard to arrange elsewhere: a coastal hike in the morning, working sessions in the afternoon at a venue on the Old Port or on a rooftop in Le Panier.
What to plan for
Internal distances are easy to underestimate. A seaside venue near Pointe-Rouge and a hotel by Saint-Charles means a shuttle to build into the agenda. Check parking arrangements as well if part of the group is driving.

🎬 Cannes for a short, polished format
What the city offers
Cannes works remarkably well over two days. Everything between the Croisette and the centre is walkable, so no shuttles are needed, and the city has a density of private villas and seafront meeting venues that give the event a distinct feel from the first hour. A fully private setting is easier to secure here than in Paris, with entire villas available for groups of thirty to fifty.
What to plan for
The trade show calendar. TFWA World Exhibition takes over the city in late September or early October depending on the year, and availability during that week is thin. If your dates fall in that window, book several months ahead or shift by a week.

🌿 Nice for the balance between logistics and setting
What the city offers
Nice combines what the other three offer separately: a major airport fifteen minutes from the centre, a city large enough to absorb a sizeable group, and the sea in view from many venues. For teams flying in from several European countries, it is often the simplest meeting point. Options run from villas in the Cimiez hills to rooftops in the centre and venues along the Promenade des Anglais.
What to plan for
September is in high demand, Thursdays and Fridays especially. Air links work well at that time of year, but Friday evening flights fill up fast, so lock in return travel at the same time as the venue.
